If you are reading this topic, then you most likely have an email address. Then by all means you should if not already, sign up to receive the Email alerts from NARFE Headquarters. They call this system, the Global Electronic Messaging System (GEMS). This is used mostly to send out weekly legislative news when Congress is in session, but they also use it to send out other timely and important messages that will inform you and keep you up to date on NARFE issues. To sign up follow this guide: (This has been updated for the new NARFE website)
1. Go to NARFE Headquarters website, www.narfe.org. You will see 3 Main Tabs along the top. Click on Members and then sign in using your last name and member ID #
2. On the next page, look on the left column and you will see What You Can Do Online. Under that, click on Join Gems or Update Your Record
3. On the next page, enter your Member Id# and select your Date of Birth using the drop down lists.
4. This will take you to a page where you can enter or change your Email address. Note, you can also update your mailing address and/or phone number as well.
5. Next click UPDATE and you are done.
It is possible that because of SPAM blocking tools either at your ISP level or your Email Program, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, etc. these GEMS message might be mistaken for SPAM. To help prevent this add gems@narfe.org to your Address Book and if possible add it to your ISP's White List or Do Not Block List.
